Unknown gunmen have invaded Ukum Local area of Benue State and abducted the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Matthew Abo, on Sunday in his hometown of Zaki Biam.
The abductors, according to an eyewitness who spoke with the Punch, stroke the commissioner’s residence on Sunday at about 8 p.m. in motorcycles. “The kidnappers came on four motorcycles, ordered everyone in the house, including the commissioner’s wife and children, to lie face down, and took him away to an unknown destination on one of the motorcycles
The eyewitness explained that the abductors forced the commissioner to sit behind the rider of one of the motorcycles while a gunman sandwiched him.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, Tersoo Kula, revealed that the governor had been notified of his abduction “Yes, he was kidnapped. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped in his country home in Ukum LGA around 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023. He was at home with his family, children and people when the armed men came in. They forced him to a bike.
He explained that the state governor has directed security operatives to put up efforts to ensure the release of the commissioner.
The Police Spokesperson for Benue State, Catherine Anene, also confirmed the abduction while noting that the command was investigating the incident. “Kidnap of the Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism is confirmed. The investigation is ongoing please,” she said.
