A violent confrontation between farmers and herders in Bursali Village of Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has left one person dead and five other suspects were arrested. The Spokesperson of the Bauchi Police Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil confirmed this in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.
Wakil said the clash erupted on 26 November 2025 at about 11:00 a.m., after herders from neighbouring Jigawa State allegedly trespassed onto community farmland and destroyed crops.
“The incursion, which sparked tension in the agrarian community, quickly escalated into a deadly altercation,” he said. Wakili said upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer of Zaki Division, SP Iliya Dogo, deployed detectives to the scene, resulting in the arrest of five suspects believed to be connected to the killing.“
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation,” Wakil stated. He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and preventing any further breakdown of law and order.
The police spokesperson added that normalcy has since returned to the area, with officers maintaining “vigilant surveillance” to forestall reprisals. He said the arrested suspects will be profiled and charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Wakil urged residents to remain calm and avoid acts of vigilantism, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence as the police work to unravel the circumstances behind the fatal clash.
