1 million people to benefit from Bauchi water expansion project—MD BSWSC

The Managing Director of Bauchi State Water and Sewage Corporation engineer Aliyu Aminu Gital has explained that over one million people are expected to benefit from the expansion and ongoing rehabilitation of Bauchi Water urban water scheme.

Gital who stated this in Bauchi while he interacting with reporters, said the World Bank is supporting the state government to re-activate and expand the water supply scheme of Bauchi metropolis.

This according to him is necessitated by the fact that the capacity of the existing facilities cannot meet the water demand of the metropolis, the population of which has been growing astronomically.

He claimed that the ongoing expansion work will meet the water requirement of the state capital and environ up to 2027.

“We are now laying down water pipes which will cover over 167 kilometers”, Gital says.

He said​ the corporation has now completed the laying down of water pipes in GRA, State low cost, adding however that challenges exist in laying the pipes from Gubi dam to the state capital due hard rocks encountered along the way.

“In some areas there are rocks we are still working to blast them”.

Gital said presently the population of Bauchi stands at about 650,000 and is expected to reach over 1 million by 2027.

Gital advised the people of the state to cooperate with the corporation in it’s effort to ensure the success of the project.
