The Jigawa State government is to offer free cataract surgery to 1,000 patients across the 27 local government areas of the state.
The State’s Eyecare Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, A.U. Abdurrahman, who disclosed this said the free surgeries targeting 40 beneficiaries from each LGA will be conducted in collaboration with Darrul Imara Charity Foundation and Hilal Foundation from Turkey.
According to him medical experts from Turkey will arrive in Dutse on Tuesday to commence operations.
Abdurrahman said the free surgeries will last from 6 to 11th November, adding that the program is to support patients at local levels who do not have the means to afford surgeries.
“This proactive approach to addressing vision impairment is a testament to Jigawa State’s dedication to the well-being of its residents, particularly those in rural communities”, he said.
He mentioned the designated centres for the free surgeries as Sambo Hospital and Huda Eye Clinic, all in the state capital.
“The humanitarian endeavour demonstrates the state’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare, particularly in rural areas where medical services are often scarce”, added Abdurrahman.
