Bauchi Gov’t vows to prosecute corrupt officials

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment towards the advancement of fight against corruption in the state.

The Governor gave the assurance at a stakeholders meeting organized by the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency.

Governor Bala Mohammed observed that corruption was responsibly for the dilapidation of the country’s Institutions, and emphasized the need for all hands to be on deck for to eliminate the menace.

The Governor who acknowledged the efforts of President Buhari’s administration in the fight against corruption in all its ramifications, applauded NOA in the state for massive sensitization of citizens on the negative effect of corruption.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Sabi’u Baba, Governor Bala Mohammed said his administration would prosecute any official involved in corrupt practices.

In a key note address, a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Etannibi Alemika noted that the committee deemed its necessary to seek partnership with NOA in order to achieve the set objectives.

Speaking on Value Re-Orientation and the Fight Against Corruption in Nigeria, Professor Mansur Usman Malumfashi of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, suggested the use of technology and involvement of Religious and Community leaders to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

The Bauchi State Director, National Orientation Agency, Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi had earlier said the meeting was organized to enlighten citizens on the anti corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari and to mobilize mass support for the crusade.

Nuru Kobi pointed out that for the society to live in harmony and make significant socioeconomic and political progress, there was the need for citizens to embrace positive attitudes, values and behavior that promote national unity, stability and development.

The State NOA Director said to this end, National Orientation Agency in the state would conduct massive sensitization at the grassroots so to ensure active participation of people in the fight against corruption.
