A 13-year-old almajiri, Yusuf Magaji, has been confirmed dead after he drowned in an open water in Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State.
Spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi , disclosed this in a a statement issued to newsmen Friday afternoon.
According to the statement, the deceased alongside other children were on their way to a neighbouring village When they stopped by an open water to wash themselves.
“On their way to one village, they stopped by the side of an open water with intention to wash their body but very unfortunately, he slid into the river, and he made a lot of efforts to escape from to no avail.
“Our men from Karaye successfully retrieved the victim unconsciously and conveyed to Karaye specialist hospital for medical attention and later confirmed dead by the doctor,” explained the spokesman.
Abdullahi disclosed that the body of the deceased had been handed over to Malam Nafi’u Na Adama, the head of the Quranic school for burial according to Islamic rites.
