15 Years After, Coalition Begs Police to Release Report on Murder Case in Kogi

Fifteen years after the duo of Victor Obafaite and Jimoh Asimi were allegedly murdered, the Coalition of Civil Society Groups is calling on the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun to release the police investigation report into the matter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obafaite and Asimi lost their lives in the aftermath of the 2007 House of Representatives election in Kabba/Bunu LGA.

Wisdom Chinedu, the convener in a statement in Abuja on Monday, urged the Inspector General of Police to take action, saying the relevant authorities involved in the case should make their investigation reports public.

The activist urged the commissioner of police in Kogi State command and the divisional police officer in charge of Kabba/Bunu to initiate a fresh inquiry.

He emphasised the need to unravel the circumstances surrounding the duo’s deaths and expressed doubts about the previous committee’s trustworthiness.

Chinedu stressed the importance of justice, stating that the alleged mastermind of the attack should be promptly arrested and prosecuted for murder.

Chinedu demanded that all individuals directly or indirectly responsible for the 2007 mayhem face legal consequences.
