2 Men Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Removing Bauchi Girl’s Genitals

Two men have been sentenced to a jail term of 35 years for removing the genitals of a girl in Bauchi State.

Adamu Abdulra’uf, 20, and Abdulkadir Wada, 21, were sentenced to prison by Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, Bauchi State Chief Judge, who is also the presiding judge of High Court No. 1.

The men pleaded guilty to culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.

Abdulra’uf and Wada were arraigned in 2021 on three count charges bordering criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit culpable homicide on one Hauwa’u Ya’u who was 6-year-old at the time of the incident in Jama’are local government area of the state.

In December 2020, Abdulra’uf and Wada lured Hauwa’u to an uncompleted building in Gandu Street, Jama’are and expunged her genitals to perfect ritual rite.

The prosecution counsel, Sabi’u Gumba, presented four witnesses to the court to prove the case.

However, the accused who testified for themselves could not present additional witnesses before the court.

WikkiTimes learnt that the Bauchi State Government had taken Hauwa’u to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) for surgery to repair her removed genitals.

The surgical procedure went smoothly. Four months later, she was discharged and reunited with her family.
