Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has defeated his major opponent Atiku Abubakar of the People’ s Democratic Party in the 2019 Presidential polls.
The Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC is yet to officially declare Mr Buhari winner of the 2019 presidential elections, but results from all states of the Federation suggest Buhari has won.
Buhari, 76 thrashes his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People’s Democratic Party.
Buhari polled 15,191,847 to defeat Atiku who scored 11,262,978.
Mr Buhari was born in 1942 into a Muslim family in Katsina state.
The former soldier who led a military regime in 1980 was elected in 2015, defeating an incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan, who immediately conceded even before the final tally by the electoral umpire.
Mr. Buhari sought a second term despite a growing concern on his health having spent more thn 100 days in medical tourism in London.
Buhari’s main challenger Atiku Abubakar was born in 1946 in the northeastern state of Adamawa.
Atiku is a billionaire and co-owner of multinational oil firms, a private university and soft drinks companies.
He’s widely rejected in the north, with corruption lables appearing to be his biggest’ achilles’ hills.
Atiku has consistently denied the allegations, saying they were politically motivated.
His party, the PDP has shown no sign of conceding defeat.
Report suggests the party stalwarts were assembling lawyers to challenge the outcome of the polls.
