2022: Kano Budgets N800m To Address Poverty, Unemployment Among Women

Kano State government is to prioritise the training of women and youths in 2022 under its empowerment programmes especially at the grassroots, Daily Trusrt reports.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad Umar, disclosed this while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget at the Kano State House of Assembly.

She explained that about N800 million earmarked for the grassroots was designed to address poverty and unemployment as the major factors affecting the wellbeing of the people.

The commissioner also revealed that the state government had mapped out strategies aimed at reviving local production of household items, locally produced groundnut oil and cake by women in the rural areas to enhance self-reliance.

She said the Kiru Reformatory Institute was undergoing rehabilitation and expansion to accommodate a large number of male and female drug addicts to make them useful members of society.
