2023: Amaechi Officially Joins Presidential Race

Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister for Transportation has on Saturday declared his interest to contest for the Presidency of Nigeria, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming 2023 elections.

Amaechi, 57, made the declaration at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, the venue of the Rivers APC Thanksgiving service.

Amidst cheers from the crowd, Amaechi said he would seek the APC’s ticket to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

He declared, “I stand before you today to declare my intention and submit my application to serve as your next President”,

Born in 1965 in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is currently serving as the Minister of Transportation. He previously served in oil-rich Rivers State as Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007

In 2013, Amaechi alongside five members of the G-7 defected to the new opposition party the All Progressives Congress (APC) and became director-general of Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign.
