Not fewer than 223 students drawn from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi state will participate in this year’s state Qur’anic recitation competition.
Chairman of the competition committee Malam Mustapha Baba Ilelah disclosed this on Saturday during the opening ceremony of the competition in Ningi local government area of the state.
He explained that this is the 34th edition of the competition in the state, and the committee had organized training to Qur’anic teachers that would judge the contestants.
He thanked the state government for the financial supportgiven to the committee and promised to be fair to all the contestants.
Also speaking, the guest speaker at the event Dr. Muhammad Babangida Gamawa said the yearly competition encourages Qur’anic students to memorize the holy book.
“The prophet (PBUH) said the best of Muslims is the one who studies Qur’an and teaches others. “I urge Muslims to not only learn the holy book but to put its teachings into practice”, he said.
In his speech, the state governor, Bala Mohammed represented by his deputy Senator Baba Tela expressed optimism that the participants can represent the state at national and international Qur’anic recitation competitions.
He promised that the government would continue to supportreligious activities in the state.
