3 Civilians, 5 Policemen On Duty Killed By Suspected Bandits In Katsina

Five mobile policemen and three civilians have been shot dead by suspected bandits at Gatikawa community, Kankara, Katsina State.

The mobile policemen were said to be on special duty from Kano, Daily Trust reports.

Wikki Times learnt that the episode happened at about 5:35 pm on Wednesday when over 300 gunmen raged the community and started shooting to intimidate the residents.

According to a source, the gunmen had automatic weapons and rode on motorcycles, barging into houses and robbing them of things including money and food items.

The source added that several residents were also injured in the process, especially those who attempted to flee.

Residents have been nervous after the attack which led to some of them fleeing to the neighbouring towns, Wikki Times gathered.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Idrisu Dabban Dauda, has issued cheques of N14.6m to families and next of kin of the deceased police officers, who died in active service, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman. 

As contained in a statement published by the spokesperson of the command, SP Gambo Isah, the cheques are part of the IGP’s Family Welfare Insurance Scheme being given to families of deceased Police Officers.
