30 killed, Houses Burnt In Fresh Jos Crisis

Unknown gunmen have killed at least 30 people and burnt houses in Yelwa-Zangam, a suburb of Jos metropolis in a renewed Jos violence.

Musa Audi, a resident of the area told WikkiTimes that the gunmen stormed the community, shooting sporadically and setting scores of houses ablaze.

“Over 30 people were killed by people who stormed the community with sophisticated weapons, sporadically shot at people at sight and setting houses ablaze,” he said.

Gabriel Ubah, Police Public Relations Officer Plateau State Command confirmed the attack, saying that details about casualties from the attack will be communicated to reporters after Police concluded its investigation.

He said that security personnel were mobilised to the area to quench the violence and restore order.

WikkiTimes recalls that the latest attack is coming barely two weeks after some restive Irigwe youth massacred over 30 Muslim travellers on their way to the southern part of Nigeria after attending Islamic New Year celebrations in Bauchi.
