Two days after a Bauchi-based businessman, Chukwunonso Chukwujekwu, 37, was declared missing, residents found his lifeless body inside his shop in Boi community of Tafawa Balewa local council.
Before he went missing, the businessman popularly known as Nanso had attended a ceremony alongside other Igbo natives in the community. The deceased who hailed from Anambra State lived in the community for over two decades, according to residents.
Prior to when his body was found, residents had speculated that he might have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen who have intensified their activities in the axis.
“We thought he was kidnapped because we had a similar incident in the area recently,” said a member of a local security outfit in the area
Back home, the deceased held the title of ‘Onyewetehi of Nandi kingdom’. Similarly, he was conferred with the traditional title of ‘Kaigaman Boi’ in Bauchi State.
Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, spokesperson for Bauchi Police Command confirmed the incident to WikkiTimes, saying he had issued a statement about it.
His death comes barely two weeks after gunmen whisked away Mulki Marku, an aide to the member of the Bauchi House of Assembly representing the area. The kidnappers are demanding N100 million for his release. In February, WkiikTimes reported that gunmen abducted a nursing mother, Hajiya Khadija Ardo, 40, and her baby. They also demanded N1.5 million ransom to release them.
