41 Institutions to Close Down in Bauchi

The National Commission for Colleges of Education has issued a one-month ultimatum to 41 institutions illegally awarding Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) certificates to close down or face the full wrath of the law.

This was contained in a letter signed by Professor Paulinus Okwelle, the Executive Secretary of the commission and addressed to the Bauchi State Commissioner of Education.

The ultimatum followed an outcome of the nationwide verification exercise to fish out unapproved NCE awarding institutions and study centres by the commission.

It said the report of the exercise was submitted to the Federal Ministry of Education and the commission was directed to immediately close down the identified instructions and study centres in which 41 institutions were identified to be operating illegally in Bauchi State.

“You may recall that in October and November 2021, the Commission conducted a nationwide verification exercise to fish out unapproved NCE awarding institutions/study centres with the support and cooperation of your office,” the letter partly read.

“In view of the above development, therefore, the affected colleges/study centres have been given one month within which to close down or face the full wrath of the law,” it added.

The commission pleaded with the Bauchi State government through the education commissioner to ensure the closure of the identified institutions and any other illegal NCE awarding institutions in the state.
