The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has elected Danlami Nmodu, mni, as its new president following a keenly contested election held in Lagos.
Mr Nmodu, publisher of Newsdiary Online, succeeds Dr. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Magazine, who has completed her tenure.
Other members of the newly inaugurated executive committee include Olumide Iyanda (Deputy President), Sufuyan Ojeifo (General Secretary), Akeem Oyetunji (Deputy General Secretary), Ngozi Onyeakusi (Treasurer), Moses Ebosele (Financial Secretary), and Kemi Yesufu (Publicity Secretary).
In his acceptance speech, Mr Nmodu thanked members of GOCOP for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to strengthen the organisation’s role within Nigeria’s online media community.
“I take the responsibility of this office seriously. Our members shall come first. I promise to work harmoniously with other EXCO members to take GOCOP to greater heights,” he said.
He also promised to create more human capital and business opportunities for members.
The election, presided over by Yusuf Ozi-Usman, chairman of the GOCOP Electoral Committee, was contested only for the presidency between Mr Nmodu and Segun Adeleye, while other positions were returned unopposed.
Mr Ozi-Usman said that of the 120 registered members as of October 8, 114 were eligible to vote, with 80 attending the annual congress in person. He added that 71 members voted physically, while nine cast their votes electronically.
Mr Nmodu emerged winner with 56 votes.
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers is an umbrella body for professional online media owners committed to promoting credible journalism and ethical online publishing in Nigeria.
