Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following a renewed outbreak of communal violence on Sunday evening.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo. The government said the measure became necessary to prevent further escalation and allow security agencies to stabilise the affected communities.
According to the statement, Governor Fintiri ordered a swift deployment of security operatives to the flashpoints to restore peace and maintain public order. The government urged residents to comply fully with the curfew and to cooperate with security personnel working to bring the situation under control.
“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read.
It added that security agencies have been directed to move into the area and ensure calm returns without delay.
The government assured residents that efforts are ongoing to address the root causes of the violence and prevent a recurrence.
