Federal University, Kashare Debunks ‘Fraudulent’ SMS Targeting New Students

The Federal University of Kashare (FUK) in Gombe State has debunked a Short Message Service (SMS) targeting newly admitted students of the institution to process their accommodation and make payment through a “fraudulent” link — http://forms.gle/4VDpkou4xo4svBDz5.

According to a statement by Hassan Abubakar Kwami, for the institution’s acting registrar, Umar Faruk Bayu, the SMS was being circulated by scammers using a fake email address and bank details.

As contained in the SMS, students were urged to process accommodation, make a payment or obtain a registration Personal Identification Number (PIN) within 24 hours. But the institution argued that students’ registration could only be “freely” obtained through the Academic Affairs Division of the university.

However, the institution urged the public to ignore the SMS, claiming it has reported the matter to relevant agencies. Further, the institution advised students to visit its website: www.fukashere.edu.ng for enquiry or any information regarding the registration procedure.

THE FULL STATEMENT

The attention of Management of Federal University of Kashere Gombe State has been drawn to fake Short Message Service (SMS) and email messages being sent to the newly admitted candidates by some suspected scammers requesting them to make payment and process accommodation and or obtain registration Personal Identification Number (PIN) within 24 hours by clicking the following fraudulent link: http://forms.gle/4VDpkou4xo4svBDz5.

The scammers have even provided fake email address and bank account details where such payments could be made to process the said PIN. To make the records straight, the Student Registration PIN is only issued at the Academic Affairs Division of the University at Kashere, after physical screening and that the PIN is free.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Management of the University has never engaged any Agent or Consultant to issue/process Registration PIN for its Students. Therefore, the General Public especially newly admitted students should ignore such messages. The newly admitted Students are advised to always visit the University’s Website: www.fukashere.edu.ng for their enquiry or any information regarding the Registration procedure.

Accordingly, the Management is seeking for the cooperation of the general public to please report the perpetrators of this fraudulent activity as the matter has been reported to the relevant security and Anti-graft Agencies to ensure that they are brought to book.
