How Bandits Killed 84 Vigilantes, Locals in Katsina

In addition to 41 vigilantes and locals gruesomely murdered by gun-wielding terrorists on Thursday in Katsina State, residents recovered another 26 bodies from the forest yesterday evening.

The terrorists locally known as bandits had attacked some communities in Kankara and Bakori local councils of Katsina to rustle some cows, Daily Trust had reported, putting the casualty figures at 41. The toll, however, rose to 58 on Friday as residents suggested more bodies could be discovered owing to the number of people still missing.

The deceased locals accompanied by the vigilantes reportedly trooped to the forest in an effort to recover cattle rustled by the terrorists who attacked their community earlier. Unfortunately, the terrorists ambushed them.

However, the death toll has risen to 84, according to Daily Trust. A source told the medium that he spotted security operating around Yargoje junction conveying additional 26 bodies from the scene of the attack.

Reacting to the attack, the Katsina State Government said it will investigate the deaths of the locals.

Ibrahim Ahmed-Katsina, special adviser to Governor Aminu Bello Masari on security matters, disclosed this to journalists on Friday evening, adding that the government would assist the families of the deceased persons.
