Police in Zamfara have arrested a popular arms supplier to bandits simply identified as Mamuda in Anka local government area with a large cache of AK-47 ammunition.
A Zamfara based journalist, Anas Ahmed Zanzaro, told WikkiTimes in an interview that the Mamuda was arrested in a checkpoint near Anka enroute to bandits hideouts make delivery.
According to Zanzaro, a source privy to the incident who pleaded anonymity said the suspect was arrested alongside his wife and a bandit’s wife with over 441 AK-47 ammunition.
“I have known him since when he was a child. He studied here in Anka and went to Tsafe to study health related courses. What happened is that he was arrested yesterday (Thursday) in a checkpoint near Anka with arms in the car together with his wife and a wife of a wanted bandit”, said the source.
According locals, this is not the first time Mamuda, who was in his mid twenties was arrested, as he was once arrested for allegedly treating wounded bandits in his village.
“This is the not the first time he was arrested. He hailed from a village called Makakari and he was once arrested there for treating wounded bandits. There was a notorious bandit around the village called Dari who was wounded when troops raided his house. The boy was arrested after he went to his hideouts to treat him”.
“Not only that there was a time when our people became suspicious of him as he was buying rice in large quantities and was transporting it but when asked he said he is keeping it for future use”, he said.
He, however, said Mamuda was released after people of the village have testified of his good character as he has innocent looks and no one ever suspected him of having relationship with the the bandits.
“Yes, he was freed that time after so many people testified of his character, but little did we know that he is in such acts. He was arrested yesterday with over 441 AK-47 ammunition alongside wife of a known bandit Jide who has been terrorizing communities in Anka. The ammunition were concealed in the car”, he added.
When contacted by WikkiTimes, Yazid Abubakar, the Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesman said the command is not aware of the arrest at the moment, but will give update after receiving the report.
