Adamawa, Kebbi Supplementary Elections Slated for April 15

Sequel to inconclusive governorship, national and state assembly polls as declared by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa and Kebbi states, the electoral umpire says it will conduct supplementary elections for the states comes April 15.

INEC disclosed this via a Twiiter post earlier today.

“Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023,” it tweeted.

The gubernatorial election in Kebbi was declared inconclusive following breaches of electoral laws in 20 polling units within 21 local government areas I. The state.

Returning Officer for Kebbi, Professor Yusuf Sa’idu, said the election was declared inconclusive as a result of violence, destruction of election materials, disruption of electoral proceedings and over-voting.

Before declaring the election inconclusive, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasir Idris was ahead with 388,258 votes, as against 342,980 votes by Aminu Bande of the People Democratic Party (PDP), TheGuardian reported.

In Adamawa, APC governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Dahiru fondly called Binani polled 390,275 votes while the incumbent Governor, Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ahmadu Fintiri polled 421,524 votes.

But Professor Muhammadu Mele, INEC’s Collation Officer for Adamawa declared the election inconclusive due to the margin of votes.

Mele said elections did not hold in 47 wards, affecting 69 polling units stating this gave a margin of 31,249.
