Adamawa Vigilante Nabbed for Alleged Impersonation, Extortion

The police in Adamawa State have arrested a member of local Vigilante group for allegedly impersonation and extortion of tricyclists in the name of police officer.

The suspect according to the police was arrested along Mustapha Flyover in Jimeta Modern Market, Yola extorting money from tricyclists wearing police unifrom.

Sulaiman Yahaya Nguroje, the spokesman of the command said Shafiu Abdulkadir, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa, Yola North was arrested following a tip-off by operators of Keke NAPEP who complained that some members of vigilante group are impersonating police and extorting money from them.

“The Adamawa State Police Command have on 26th September 2024, arrested one Shafiu Abdulkadir, aged 27, a resident of Anguwan Yelwa, Yola North LGA for impersonating a police officer and extorting members of the public”.

“The suspect was found extorting Tricyclists along Aliyu Mustapha Flyover and around Jimeta Modern Market. The arrest was a follow-up to the information regarding the activities of some Vigilante men going around threatening and extorting Keke riders”, said Yahaya in a statement.
