After Escaping ISWAP’s Onslaught, Boko Haram Commanders Surrender to Nigerian troops

A few days after escaping an onslaught from their breakaway faction, Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP), four top commanders of Boko Haram have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) patrolling Gwoza local council of Borno state.

Mala’ana (Khaid), Abu Dauda (Munzir), Modu Yalee, (Commander)  Bin Diska, (Nakif) — all laid down their arms to Nigerian troops on Monday.

WikkiTimes had within the week reported that Boko Haram terrorist group reportedly fled their camp when members of ISWAP invaded their stronghold in Gaizuwa, Bama local council of Borno State.

The Boko Haram fighters and their commanders reportedly “fled” the camp when one of the ISWAP commanders identified Ba’ana Chingori led dozens of his fighters in four Hilux trucks mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns and motorcycles, to attack them in Abu Ikilima’s camp, in Sambisa forest.

A week earlier, ISWAP terrorists eliminated Boko Haram Commander, Malam Aboubakar (Munzir) and other 15-foot soldiers in their fierce inter-group rift. A few days later, The Boko Haram group on a vengeance mission, killed 33 women believed to be wives of their ISWAP members.

Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst, in the Lake Chad region, explained that the insurgents came out from Sambisa on December 12, 2022, where they had been hiding and waging campaigns of terror from the forest.

Sources said the four surrendered were former Commanders of Abubakar Shekau at Njimiya camp feared the battlefield elimination due to the sustained intensified onslaught on the terrorists’ hideouts as well as rivalry attacks.

Meanwhile, Maj-Gen Christopher Musa, theatre commander of “Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK),” has said about 83,000 Boko Haram members have so far surrendered and are currently undergoing rehabilitation at various facilities.

He stated this on December 16, when he visited Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni as part of a tour of command and formations under his control.
