After Outcry Generated by Viral Video, Kano Varsity Suspends Lecturer for Alleged Maltreatment of Students

The Management of Ali Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, has suspended the lecturer caught on camera exposing students to capital punishment for coming to lecture hall late.

The footage of the lecturer forcing students to kneel and others forced to frog jump went viral yesterday with many activists condemning the act including the Kano-based lawyer, Abba Hikima.

While announcing the lecturer’s suspension, the university management condemned the act and assured to take disciplinary action on the affected staff and deliver action on the matter.

The statement signed by Sai’du Abdulahi Nayaya, Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations Unit, said the welfare and safety of the students are its topmost and any breach by whomsoever the management will not tolerated or let it go unpunished.

“The attention of the Management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, is drawn to a viral video circulating in social media, of physical assault/corporal punishment meted out on some students by academic staff in a lecture hall and stories of it were carried by some media houses.

“To that effect, the Management of the University immediately queried and suspended the staff in question and forwarded the case to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further action”, it said.

Addtionally, according to the statement, the University management have swiftly taken measures to arrest the situation and bring justice, while assuring that it will continue to provide conducive learning conditions for the students, so they will successfully graduate at the end of their studies.
