The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has released the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) Fisayo Soyombo, after being interviewed for seven-and-a-hours.
FIJ noted in a tweet on its X’s (formerly Twitter) handle, said Soyombo is now free but on bail and have to be returning to the NPF-NCCC for bi-weekly meetings.
The FIJ said Soyombo had flown to Abuja to speak with the NPF-NCCC on Wednesday morning after both parties agreed to a meeting.
“We can confirm that after more than seven-and-a-half hours with the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC), our founder @fisayosoyombo has been released on bail” tweeted FIJ.
Soyombo had upon his arrival at the NPF-NCCC alongside the organization’s lawyer Abimbola Ojenike, said he has voluntarily arrived in the office based on publicly available information that he was wanted.
“I have just voluntarily arrived at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC) in Abuja based on publicly available information that I am wanted. I’m here with FIJ lawyer Abimbola Ojenike,” Soyombo shared on his social media pages.
