Barely one week after his failure at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries, Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has won the 2023 governorship ticket after pacifying the erstwhile winner, Ibrahim Mohammed Kashim, by reinstating him to the post of Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Kashim, WikkiTimes exclusively reported, had secretly resigned his position to contest for governorship office, but in proxy for governor Bala who aimlessly pursued his presidential ambition where he returned home with 20 votes, even below Bukola Saraki, the former senate president.
Prior to PDP presidential primary, the party had held its primary in Bauchi and Kashim emerged the winner, as a sole candidate of the party even as governor Bala’s name appeared on the ballot. However, it was tagged an error from the national body.
Following the governor’s failure at the presidential primaries, Kashim withdrew his interest to cede the ticket to the governor. To democratise it, the party on Saturday conducted another primary election in favour of governor Bala. However, the governor emerged as the winner. Before the primary, Kashim was reappointed as the SSG on May 2, 2022.
“By the powers conferred on me by the constitution of the PDP, I hereby declare Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir as the winner of the PDP gubernatorial ticket for the 2023 general elections,” the returning officer of the primary election declared.
He said, though Bala Mohammed as a sole aspirant polled a total of 646 votes out of the 650 accredited delegates who voted.
In his victory speech, the elated governor, thanked the Kashim, the SSG for his loyalty to him, and for deeming it fit that the governor deserves a second term.
He said he is aware that other political parties have elected their flagbearers, and assured that he will play politics with fairness and carry everyone along.
