Again, ASUU Declares Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has on Monday morning declared another nationwide industrial action.

Emmanuel Victor Osodeke, the national president of the union who broke the news at a press conference, said the union agreed to go on strike following its intense two-day deliberation by its national executive council, NEC.

The President declared the industrial action as “comprehensive and total.”

The Union’s decision to embark on nationwide industrial action is a culmination of nationwide sensitization and mobilization of lecturers across all varsities on the reason the union might go on a strike, reports, TheCable.

The mobilisation for strike followed the federal government’s failure to honour several decisions reached with the union.

Although President Muhammadu Buhari was reportedly saying his administration would honour its agreements with the union to prevent incessant strikes in the education sector, the promise remains to be seen.
