Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, rededicated itself to academic excellence and world relevance through deliberate investments in quality education, modern infrastructure, and global collaboration.
This came after a media talk held yesterday at the university campus in Sumaila. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulhadi Sale Kumurya, spoke to journalists about the school’s progress and future plans.
“Our commitment is irrevocable. We are building an institution that produces graduates of character, competence, and conscience — graduates who are qualified to contribute immensely to national and global development,” remarked the Vice-Chancellor.
He also revealed that 243 students successfully graduated in the academic year 2023/2024, and they all have already joined the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He concluded that the graduates represent the fruits of labor and dedication of the university to full mastery in all fields.

Three established faculties in Al-Istiqama University run programs with accreditation. It has developed new programs that are waiting for approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“All new programmes that we introduce must meet the best regulation and professional standards, that is why we build our academic foundation in a responsible manner,” said Professor Kumurya. “It is our mission to present students with globally competitive competencies grounded in moral values.”.
Infrastructural and Technology Development
The Vice-Chancellor announced that works on new academic infrastructure have achieved 80 percent completion, with space for all the planned 22 programmes. He further revealed that the university registered a 100 percent increase in internet bandwidth, enhancing online learning, research, and administration efficiency.
“Our investments in technological innovation have improved blended learning and produced a modern environment for innovation and discovery,” he said.
Professor Kumurya also praised staff and students for their resilience and help in the evolution of the university.
“Our people and students have demonstrated great loyalty to our values. Their tenacity shapes the type of school that we want to build — that is, one of discipline, excellence, and integrity,” he added.
He also mentioned that AUSU established new global partnerships, particularly with Sabratha University in Libya, in order to achieve academic mobility and collaboration in joint research.

The professor also thanked the NUC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for their continued help. He described the association as “friendly, helpful, and significant to our development.” In conclusion, the Vice-Chancellor repeated AUSU’s goal to be a top university based on moral and cultural values. He thanked the university’s Founder, Senator Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, OFR, PhD, for his constant support and help. “With faith, cooperation, and assistance from a higher power, Al-Istiqama University shall continue to flourish as an excellent example of learning and practicing righteousness,” he remarked.
