Ansaru Jihadists Are ‘Forcefully’ Marrying Girls In Their Kaduna Stronghold

Ansaru jihadists in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, are “forcefully” marrying women, mostly young girls, according to BBC Hausa.

Last Tuesday, the terrorists reportedly married an unspecified number of girls in Tsohuwar Kuyallo Village, insiders said.

A resident of the village told BBC Hausa that it was not a new thing for the marauders to forcefully marry girls in the village. He disclosed that a similar event took place two months ago.

Although police authorities in Kaduna told BBC Hausa, they are not in the know of marriages. However, they promised to investigate the matter.

However, a security expert, Muhammad Kabir Isa of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, is of the view that government’s lukewarm attitude towards security matters, is the responsible factor that led to terrorists freely operating even to the extent of marrying women in the areas they operated.

“Now if they marry from the area, the children will become theirs, which is a tactic devised to have more people affiliated to their ideologies”, said Kabir.

He explained that lack of seriousness on the part of government is what makes terrorists groups such as Ansaru lure people with material gains.

Birnin Gwari is part of the areas in Kaduna State where assailants frequently attack unsuspecting residents.

However, just of recent the people of the area have been thrown into uncertainty as reports have shown that the dreaded terrorists group, Ansaru has established its base in the area.

Investigations by the National Intelligence Agency on ISS have shown that Ansaru group was formed ten years ago in northern Nigeria and it was an offshoot of Boko Haram insurgents group.

Since then the group has been establishing alliances with bandits and kidnapping groups in the area.
