Anyim Pium Anyim, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),TheCable reports.
TheCable understands that Anyim, a former senator representing Ebonyi south, arrived the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Sunday afternoon.
Anyim is said to be answering questions by the anti-graft agency over a case of alleged money laundering linked to Stella Oduah, a former minister of aviation.
While the details of the current interrogation are still sketchy, according to sources, the EFCC is reportedly uncovering details of N780 million belonging to the aviation ministry said to have been traced to a company in which Anyim has interest.
The link to Oduah, senator representing Anambra north, comes days after a report alleging that she acquired four London properties while she was serving as minister of aviation.
According to Premium Times, a Pandora Papers project led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), and which Premium Times is a part of, revealed leaked documents on Oduah acquiring the said properties through an offshore company between 2011 and 2014.
Meanwhile, Anyim’s interrogation comes months after Ekumankama Nkama, an ex-commissioner in Ebonyi, withdrew as surety for the former lawmaker, who is under investigation by the EFCC for reportedly using firms in which he had interest to award contracts to the tune of N13 billion from the Ecological Fund Account domiciled in his office.
The former senate president was arrested in November 2017 and later granted bail, with Nkama standing as his surety.
