APC chieftain protests against continuation of Bauchi governorship result collation

A former Bauchi State commissioner of information and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State Alhaji Salisu Barau has kicked against the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue with the collation process of the governorship election results in the state today which was earlier declared inconclusive by the State returning officer.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Bauchi, Barau who hails from Tafawa Balewa local government area of the state alleged that the original result of the local government was carted away by thugs at the local government collation center adding that the result INEC intends to regenerate now is not acceptable by his party.

According to him, the electoral commission lacked legal competence to reverse the decision earlier taken by the State returning officer Professor Mohammed Kyari to conduct supplementary election in the local government.

He also alleged that the investigative committee sent to the state by the INEC national headquarters denied APC fair hearing during its sitting as party agents were allegedly not invited to talk to them.

Barau opined that on fairness and justice ground, the electoral body should conduct rerun election in Tafawa Balewa local government so that the actual winner of the governorship election will emerge.

Blueprint reports that the PDP candidate Bala Mohammed is ahead of the incumbent Governor Mohammed Abubakar with over 4, 000 votes in the results of 19 out of 20 local governments earlier announced by the State INEC headquarters.
