APC Ignores Kano, Sokoto Leaders Over Crisis

The national leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, refused to inaugurate party’s officials from Kano and Sokoto states over the crisis that engulfed members of the party in the affected states after its October 17th 2021 congress.

Security forces have been deployed in and around the party secratariat in Abuja since early morning on Thursday but reports indicated that there was fracas at the entrance of the party's secratariat.
John James Akpan Udo-Edehe, Secretary General of the party, inaugurated officials of the party from other states of the federation on Thursday in Abuja with the exception of Kano and Sokoto states where crisis and division among stakeholders of the party thickens.

The move comes almost four months after the conduct of state congresses, which sparked divisions within the party in Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kwara, Osun, Delta and Rivers states.

The faces of Abdullahi Abba and Ahmadu Haruna Zago, the self-proclaimed leaders of the party in Kano State, were not seen at the inaugiration venue.

In Kano, the faction backed by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau elected Ahmadu Haruna Zago as party's Chairman while the faction of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje elected Abdullahi Abbas.

However, in a lawsuit filed by Ganduje's faction of the party, a Federal Court declared Senator Shekarau's party "legitimate" and declared Dan-Zago as "a legitimate leader."

Although the governor's faction appealed judgement, the has not been decided yet.
