APC Takes Lead in Lagos, Wins 18 of 20 LGs

The incumbent governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is currently leading in the governorship election of the state. He is competing against Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the governorship position.

According to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Sanwo-Olu has won all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) announced so far. He defeated the LP governorship candidate in his own LGA, Ikeja, with 32,273 votes, while Rhodes-Vivour got 15,174 votes.

Sanwo-Olu also won Lagos Island LGA by a healthy margin and secured a victory in Surulere LGA, the base of Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, and Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives. Even in Ojo LGA, the stronghold of the PDP candidate, Sanwo-Olu posted a convincing victory with 30,797 votes.

However, he lost to the LP candidate in Amuwo-Odofin LGA. The results of 19 out of the 20 LGAs in the state have been announced, with the result of Eti-Osa LGA, where the election is rounding up, being the only outstanding.
