Thugs numbering about 50 stormed Bauchi NUJ Press Center at about 10.40 am and started throwing stones and other dangerous objects at Journalists who had gathered to be addressed by another faction of the APC.
The thugs took over the MA Abdullahi Hall, venue of the briefing, disorganized the arrangements and chased everybody out of the Hall thereby stopping the briefing.
It took the quick intervention of Police officers led by the PPRO, Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Wakili to save the Bauchi NUJ Press Center from being vandalized by suspected political thugs loyal to a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state.
The hoodlums attacked the secretariat of the union where they disrupted a press conference being addressed by some factional members of the party who were calling for the dissolution of the state executives of the party.
The thugs hurled stones and chairs at journalists and other attendants of the press conference in a bid to stop the press conference from holding.
The thugs fled the scene to avoid arrest by the police men, while the rest were taken to the zone 12 headquarters of the Nigeria police force (AIG’s office) in the state where the case was being handled.
Two journalists sustained mild injuries during the attack and were accompanied to the police headquarters, zone 12 by the state NUJ chairman Umar Sa’id to document what happened.
