APC Wins 22 of 26 Ondo Assembly Seats

On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the majority of seats in the Ondo state house of assembly.

Out of the 26 constituencies, the APC won 22 while the remaining four seats were won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The state assembly elections were held in 3,933 polling units and 203 wards.

Governorship elections did not hold in eight states, including Ondo, where the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is expected to complete his second term in 2024.

Four incumbent members lost their re-election bids, including PDP’s Tomide Akinribido (Ondo West), African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Favour Tomomewo (Ilaje 2), APC’s Taofeeq Muhammed (Akoko Northwest 2), and Toluwani Borokini of the APC (Akure South 1).

Furthermore, the 10th Ondo house of assembly will include three female lawmakers as female APC candidates won in Owo 1, Idanre, and Ilaje 2 constituencies. In total, 208 candidates from 19 political parties contested the state assembly elections.
