APC Youths Ask court to sack Buni, Set Aside Feb Convention Date

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of Progressive Youth Movement (PYM) have filed a suit before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, asking for an order of court setting aside the proposed February date for the party’s national convention.

The youths are also asking the court to sack the chairman of the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni through an order restraining him from parading himself as APC helmsman.

They joined APC, Buni and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as first, second and third defendants in the suit.

They argued that under articles 13.2 (A)(vii) and 17(iv) of the APC Constitution, Governor Buni, being the current governor of Yobe State, cannot validly hold an executive position in the APC at the same time.

They further argued that such act was also contrary to the provisions of Section 183 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).

They asked the court to grant “An order restraining the 2nd defendant (Buni) from parading himself as the National Chairman, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the 1st defendant (APC) while still holding the post of the Governor of Yobe State concurrently.”

They also demanded an order empowering the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the APC to convene the national convention of the party in line with Article 17(iv) of the APC Constitution.

No date has been fixed for hearing.
