Army Intercepts 512 Parcels of Cannabis in Bauchi

Operatives of the Nigerian Army 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, have intercepted 512 parcels of substance suspected to be cannabis sativa concealed in four bags at Ringin Gani village along Jos road in Toro Local Government area of Bauchi state.

Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Egbehe, the Brigade Commandant of the 33 Artillery Brigade, said the Army also arrested two suspects, explaining that they were handed over alongside the recovered items to officials of the state Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Represented by Acting Garrison Commander, Lt. Col. Abdulrahman Modibboat, Egbehe added that the suspects were arrested with the substances in a branded energy drink pickup with different makeshift compartments inside the vehicles with registration number AKD 654 XT Lagos.

“The items intercepted in the vehicles are four bags, 512 parcels of suspected cannabis sativa and 104 packs of soft drinks used to cover the Indian hemp.

“Other items recovered from the suspects are four phones, five ATM cards, a driver’s license, two padlocks and N13,550 cash,” he said.

Responding, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics of the NDLEA, Nimfa Joel commended the Army for the efforts and partnership in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

Joel assured that the agency would commence its investigation into the matter and prosecute the suspect.
