Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has issued an eight-week timeline to the Visitation Panel constituted on lingering matters fueling strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) to submit its report.

The panel was asked to look at other sundry issues pertinent to the university such as financial operations and developing a framework and strategy for effective and harmonious operations.

Speaking at the inauguration of the panel, Governor Mohammed urged the panel members to leverage their expertise towards achieving meaningful results explaining that his decision to constitute the panel was necessitated by happenings in the institution which is in no doubt hampering effective and efficient teaching and learning.

He said that education, as the bedrock of any meaningful development informed his administration’s decision to always accord full attention to the all-important sector as required.

The Governor asked members of the panel to come up with measures that will tackle and eradicate all of the various challenges facing the institution particularly the not-too-good relationship between the ASUU, NASU and the Management in spite of his personal intervention to return sanity to the Institution.

The Chairperson of the panel, Prof. Gambo Laraba commended Governor Mohammed for finding them worthy of selection to serve the state in that capacity.

She assured the Governor of their dedication to fulfilling the mandate and delivering a comprehensive report that will guide the Government in making decisions that will improve activities in the University.

WikkiTimes recalls that ASUU at SAZU had embarked on indefinite strike action over non-implementation of both pension and death benefit schemes for staff of the university, non-payment of earned academic and excess workload allowances and employment of a polytechnic graduate as bursar, which is contrary to the provisions of extant laws establishing the university.

ASUU suspended the strike following an interaction with Governor Mohammed mid-December last year.
