The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that 2025 will be a year of prolonged confrontation with the Federal Government if pressing issues are not addressed.
According to ASUU, the FG’s efforts to address its concerns in 2024 were mere window dressing and cosmetic, failing to make a significant impact on the university education sector.
The union criticized the government’s neglect of the university system and its failure to resolve outstanding issues.
Prof. Ayo Akinwole, Chairman of ASUU Ibadan chapter, stated that the uninterrupted academic calendar in 2024 was due to the union’s sacrifices, not the government’s efforts to address its concerns.
ASUU also condemned the FG’s policy reversal on the 18-year benchmark for tertiary education admission and urged the President Bola Tinubu government to review and sign the renegotiated draft agreement led by Nimi Briggs
