The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has distanced itself from a group of ex-students of the University who disrupted a Senate public hearing on a bill seeking to amend the University’s establishment bill.
The Bill, sponsored by Senator representing Bauchi South in the Senate, Shehu Buba, seek to amend the law establishing ATBU from a university of science and technology to a conventional university.
Reacting, the management of the University, in a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, on Saturday, described the group as impostors and not graduates of the university.
“In view of this disturbing information, the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, wishes to distance itself from the action of these impostors who are not graduates of the University.
“The ATBU prides itself with graduating disciplined students who have continuously been good ambassadors of the University across the globe for more than four decades.
“Hence, the University is ever confident that its graduates will never engage in any action that will disrespect the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read in parts.
Bappa expressed dismay that the action of the imposters caused the adjounment of the hearing, warning that “we equally use this medium to draw the attention of all stakeholders to be wary of any persons claiming to be graduates of the University in any further engagements with or on behalf of the University.”
It would be recalled that Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund begin holding public hearing on the bill last Thursday but the process was disrupted and adjourned indefinitely.
