ATBU Lecturers Win N108 Million TETFund Research Grant

As part of their commitment to stay true to the founding creed of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU), lecturers of the university have won 59 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Institutional Based Research Grants to the tune of N108 Million.

Our reporter gathered that certificates of award were already presented to the recipients of the grants by TETFund through the University’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development.

In 2020, the Federal Government increased the National Research Fund (NRF), domiciled in TETFund from N5 billion to N7.5 billion.

Professor Fatima Sawa, Director of Research, Innovation and Development of the University said the University won nine Institutional Based Research funds of the TETFund last year and fifty-nine this year, which she said was a tremendous leap in the area of research in the University. 

She advised the recipients of the grants to work as a team and never relent in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Muhammad Ahmad AbdulAzeez who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academics, Professor Sani Usman Kunya commended TETFund for providing the platform for improving research and development in Nigerian Tertiary institutions.

He said ATBU Bauchi staff have attained the highest status in the area of research and development among their peers in the Nigerian University system.  He noted that the University system is established on a tripod of teaching, research and community service which TETFund has done well in supporting research and staff development in the Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor said in a period of three years, the University has successfully organised four training workshops on grants-winning proposals writing as well as on research commercialization and acceleration of ideas and innovation.

WikkiTimes recalls that TETFund in partnership with ATBU trained Northeast heads of tertiary institutions and lectures on grant-winning research proposal writing skills.
