The Pharmaceutical Department of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH) has started producing personal and environmental sanitation and hygiene commodities to improve safety in medicare services.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Jibrin Yusuf, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.
According to him, the production of items such as detergent and others, is in line with the mandate of the teaching hospital on research and training and medical services.
Yusuf, who said that the items were produced on small scale to meet the hospital’s demand, added that production would be scaled up in the near future for public consumption and for income generation.
On management of infectious diseases, the CMD explained that the teaching hospital has a Molecular Laboratory for Lassa fever test, where results are made available within 24 hours.
He added that “the laboratory serves the Northeast sub-region and beyond.” (NAN)
