BAHA Appeals to Bauchi Tertiary Institutions JAC to Suspend Strike

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has appealed to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the academic and Non-academic Staff unions of state-owned Tertiary institutions to suspend its ongoing strike to pave way for proper consultation and dialog with the state government in the interest of the state.

The House made the appeal at a stakeholders’ reconciliation meeting in respect of the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the staff of the state tertiary institutions.

Speaking to newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, the Chairman state assembly committee on education, Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala said the Assembly will be happy when JAC suspended the strike action for the development of the educational system in the state.

According to him, the house invited the relevant education stakeholders for the dialog meeting because of the importance attached to the sector with a view to finding lasting solution to the matter.

Dr. Nasiru Ala hoped that, after the meeting, the unions will call up the strike and due process would be followed to ensure the full implementation of the required COMPACAS and CONDTENDIS salary structure for Academic and Non Academic Staff of the institutions by the state government.

He enjoined students of state tertiary institutions and their parents to exercise patience as well as pray for the government and the unions to resolve the issue amicable.

He appreciated the state government for it commitment to resolving the issue for the advancement of education in the state.

The stakeholders present at the meeting include, the state head of civil service, Special adviser civil service matters, Special adviser to the governor on education, representative of Ministry for higher education and regional integration, heads of state tertiary institutions, representatives of JAC and Bauchi State Lawmakers.
