At least, nine captives abducted [from Ibbi town in Mashegu LGA) by bandits lost their lives during a gun duel between some armed vigilantes and the terrorists.
On March 24, the bandits attacked Ibbi town, kidnapping 12 locals including women.
In an effort to subdue the bandits and set their captives free, the local vigilantes mobilised from different parts of Niger State, stormed the terrorists’ den at Kainji National Park, killing at least 50, according to a Leadership report.
Among the captives killed during the gun duel include a Shari’ah Court Registrar, Mallam Namaru, six women and other three men.
In addition, the vigilantes destroyed the bandits’ camps while the remaining three captives narrowly escaped.
It wasn’t a total win-win for the vigilantes, the bandits also killed two among them.
Spokesman for Niger Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached for comment.
