Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted an unspecified number of students from the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara State on Friday morning.
The Bandits allegedly attacked three students’ hostels in the federal university and abducted all the students in the hostels
It was also learned that the bandits had also attacked the Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A source who confirmed the incident to Channels TV from Sabon-Gida community in the state noted that the bandits invaded the community at about 3:00 am on Friday morning, shouting sporadically.
“They entered the town around 3 a.m. and started shooting indiscriminately. We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now.
The source also confirmed that the bandits were engaged by the army but failed to rescue the abducted persons due to their coordinated operation
“They were seriously engaged with the army troops, but the way these bandits operate, they will divide themselves into two, one group will move with the kidnapped victims while the other will stay behind to protect the first group. The first group had left with the students while the second group engaged the army in a gun duel,” a source was quoted as saying.
Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer of Zamfara State, SP Muhammed Shehu, were unsuccessful as he had yet to respond to the text message sent to him and phone calls were unsuccessful.
