Bandits Invade Zamfara Community, Kill Two Police Officers, Abduct 40 Villagers

Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, allegedly killed at least four people, including two police officers and two villagers, and abducted over forty villagers in the Kasuwa-Daji community of the Kaura-Namoda local government area of Zamfara State.

The waylaying gunmen who stormed the town in the early hours of Tuesday with sophisticated weapons including anti-aircraft, started shooting sporadically to scare residents before disarming police officers in an outpost stationed in the area.

Locals said the armed men locally known as bandits first invaded the house of former Zamfara State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Hamisu Kasuwa-Daji and abducted one of his wives and grandchildren before attacking the police outpost where they killed two officers.

Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesperson who confirmed the incident to WikkiTimes, said that the police have made efforts to trail the bandits and rescue the victims. He noted that has also the police has also recorded casualties on its part.

“Normalcy has returned to the area, we have officers on trailed of the gunmen but as of now, we are yet to ascertain the number of people abducted”.

“Yes, there were casualties on the part of the police. The Commissioner of Police Zamfara State has deployed men to the area”, Yazid told WikkiTimes.

Today’s attack is coming a few days after Governor Dauda Lawal appointed Commander for the new Community Protection Guards (Askarawan Zamfara) whose mandate is to tame the recurring bandits attacks across various local areas.
