At least 21 members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps and vigilante were feared dead as a result of an ambush by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Baure village of Safana LGA of Katsina State.
The vigilante alongside members of the Community Watch Corps were returning from a condolence visit when they were ambushed by heavily armed men.
Confirming the incident, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Katsina State Police Command the spokesman said the bandits were swiftly repelled by police operatives attached to Safana Division.
According to him, 21 persons were killed during the encounter, assuring that efforts are being intensified to arrest the perpetrators.
“In Baure village, Safana LGA, Katsina State, some suspected armed bandits attacked a joint team of Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilante members, who were returning from a condolence visit. The incident occurred at about 1630hrs, prompting a swift response from police operatives attached to Safana Divisional Headquarters who rushed to the scene and restored normalcy”.
“Sadly, twenty-one (21) persons were fatally shot as a result of the attack”, confirmed Aliyu.
