Bandits Kill Two Vigilantes, Injure 5 Residents in Fresh Katsina Attack

At least two members of vigilante groups were confirmed killed when bandits laid siege on Jibia town of Katsina state.

The bandits, in a night attack on Thursday, laid siege in Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy and Danmarke quarters in Jibia town, resulting in panic among residents of the area.

Video footage of the attack, shared by residents of the area, showed residents running to save their lives, as sporadic gunshots were heard in short distance.

Confirming the incident, Abubakar Aliyu, Katsina Police Spokesman, said in statement that it took security operatives an hour exchanging fire with the bandits before they fled the town.

Sadiq said 16 persons were rescued from the bandits while one member of Katsina State Community Watch Corps and another member of local vigilante lost their lives while some residents sustained gunshot wounds.

“At about 2115 hrs (9:15 pm), suspected armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters, all in Jibia Township, Jibia LGA, Katsina State. The swift response of the joint security team led by the DPO Jibia repelled the attackers, resulting in a fierce gun duel that lasted for over an hour”, he said.

He added the number of casualties on the parts of the bandits is yet to be ascertained, saying that normalcy has been restored in the town while the injured victims are receiving medical attention.

“Sadly, one member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and a Vigilante member lost their lives during the encounter, paying the ultimate price”, confirmed Sadiq.
