Bandits Kill Village Head, Kidnap Villagers in Niger

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed Mallam Usman Sarki The Village Head of Zazzaga in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State and abducted an unspecified number of villagers.

The attack was carried out on Tuesday night, locals told Daily Trust, noting that “They shot the village head of Zazzaga, Mallam Usman Sarki dead and kidnapped many others. For now, we cannot give the exact figure kidnapped. They also rustled many cattle belonging to us.”

Another source in the community explained that many residents have fled into the bush for safety.

“I don’t know the number of people taken from other villages because the attack was in the night. So everybody fled to the bush. But they succeeded in kidnapping many people. In Kutara, a neighbouring village to Zazzaga where I come from, seven people including women were kidnapped during the attack. That’s the only number I know. They also rustled our cattle.”

Residents in the community noted that the bandits’ attacks on other neighbouring local councils of Shiroro, and Rafi have all become a daily incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the killing of the village head, noting that he was yet to get the full details of the attack.
